GTO-501EZ A small-footprint subwoofer amplifier with 770-watt max power output, flexible impedance load and easy setup Review

I've purchased and returned two of these Amps. Since I did not use Prime to purchase, I incurred quite a bit of return shipping costs. The seller promptly responded to all requests but I remain a little fried over the cost to return two units.

On the first unit the base boost knob did not function at all and it just did not seem to sound right. It would generate base but it did not have the kick that I thought it should when considering the advertised output. Since I could not imagine receiving two defective units and I had made a custom bracket to install, I decided to try another one.

The second unit was returned due to the fact that the unit would not turn off. After a week out of town, the vehicle battery was completely dead. Easy to trace the current draw to the amp. It sounded no better and at this point, I was suspecting my sub woofer, a 10" Pioneer shallow mount.

As far as I an concerned, the EZ set function is nothing more than marketing gimmick. Following the directions, I could not obtain a satisfactory result in my vehicle with either unit.

These were installed in a 2013 Ford F150 Super Crew along with:
1 Clarion XC1410 = very satisfied
1 Pioneer TS-SW2501S4 10 inch sub mounted in a custom box = I'll call it a good value at this point. If you need a shallow mount and don't want to spend an arm and a leg.
4 Infinity 6829CF door speakers = very satisfied

I've only written this review after replacing the JBL amp with an Alpine MRV-M500. Wow, what a difference. Now there is now no doubt in my mind that the JBL GTO-501EZ is a dud. Based on my experiences, I absolutely cannot recommend this Amp.
