This is probably due to the nature of newer cars' window frames, but e vents no longer attach to the outside with tape or glue. They rather complicatedly fit into (and around) the window channel. One in they would be unlikely to come out on their own, but because of their installation, they interfere with the smooth operation of the windows. Every window slows to a crawl as the motor mashes the glass in with the plastic. Auto-up no longer functions because of the sautoreverse afety switch--once the window meets resistance, the window recedes completely unless interrupted by manual activation of the window switch).

So they serve the purpose of letting in air while (mostly) keeping out rain (they funnel any breeze-blown water in like a fan!), but aren't nearly as convenient as 15+ years ago. I have no idea how the problems could be overcome, given the rounded roof lines in late model cars, so they get 3 stars for the effort.
